Filmmaker and writer James Gunn recently treated fans to a sneak peek of the forthcoming Superman film by unveiling the first official image. This exciting glimpse showcases David Corenswet donning the iconic Superman suit, igniting anticipation for the movie’s theatrical release scheduled for July 11, 2025.

James Gunn, serving as both writer and director for “Superman,” delighted enthusiasts on May 6 with the revelation of David Corenswet as the new Superman. Despite keeping certain details under wraps, Gunn assured fans that the beloved red underwear, synonymous with Superman’s attire, remains an integral part of Corenswet’s ensemble, despite its absence from the DC Extended Universe Superman’s costume.

The image made its debut on James Gunn’s Instagram account, accompanied by the caption,

Meanwhile, fans erupted with excitement at the sight of the iconic red trunks, expressing their elation across social media platforms. One enthusiastic supporter exclaimed, “HE’S GOT THE TRUNKS!”

Another user humorously remarked,

“Thank goodness I’m not alone in spotting that! I cranked up my screen brightness and scoured the comments to see if anyone else caught it.”

David Corenswet, known for his leading roles in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series “The Politician” (2019–2020) and “Hollywood” (2020), is poised to ascend to instant stardom with his portrayal of Superman.

However, Corenswet is not the sole attraction in this highly anticipated film. Joining him are Hollywood favorites Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Holt, portraying Lois Lane and Lex Luthor, respectively. The ensemble cast also includes Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, and Wendell Pierce as Daily Planet editor Perry White.

Portraying the iconic Superman on the silver screen is a rare privilege. Alongside David Corenswet, only a handful of actors have had the opportunity, including Christopher Reeve (1978-87), Brandon Routh (2006), and Henry Cavill (2013-2022).

Moreover, the initial glimpse hints at a thrilling backdrop reminiscent of an alien invasion, with the Man of Steel seated near a window against the backdrop of towering city buildings.
